Let’s pinch each other just to make sure we are not DREAMING!
We’ve been informed by a reliable source that outside hitter Yumilka Ruiz and middle blocker Zolia Barros aka Piccinini’s Best Friend have rejoined the National Team to train and prepare for the 2011 season. Ruiz (33 yrs old) and Barros (34 yrs old) are very experienced athletes.
Ruiz has 2 Olympic gold medals and 1 bronze while Barros has 1 Gold and 1 bronze. During their years with Cuba, both athletes showed tremendous athleticism and won the hearts of many volleyball fans from all over the world.
The source added that Yumi and Zoila were asked by the coaching staff to return after they retired in 2008.
Both players are expected to compete later this year at the 2011 World Cup if Cuba qualifies.
This is AMAZING news!
Imagine if the coaching staff will ask Regla Torres to return as well. Regla is the current assistant coach of the women’s team. Then they’d ask Regla Bell, Taimarys Aguero, Ramirez, Nancy Carrillo, Rosir Calderon and even Queen Mireya? Let’s not forget Mirka Francia who had an amazing season this year in Turkey.
OMG!
We wonder if Queen Piccinini knows that Zoila is back. Can someone please warn her?
LOL!
Are you excited?
We bet you are because we are too!
We hope Yumi can still hit like this…
We can’t wait!
