When The Great Torres Meets The Great Kiraly…

Ten years ago, Cuba’s Regla Torres and Daddy Karch Kiraly from the USA were recognized by the FIVB as the World’s Best Male and Female Players of the Century. Amen! Both athletes played in 3 Olympics and won 3 Gold Medals. Let us all bow down…

Anyways, the 2 met again a few days ago when Cuba played against the USA during the last day of Round 1 at the World Champs in Japan. USA won in 4. Both teams played really well and won a spot in Round 2.

Back to Regla and Karch, they posed for pics together and chatted with the FIVB press:

Regla Torres on her most treasured Olympic Gold:

“All the victories were great but I have to pick the Sydney 2000 Olympics because they had a very high level of Volleyball with all the teams in very good conditions,” she recalled. “I was coming from a two-year injury and wasn’t sure if I was going to be in my top shape. So winning the gold medal in 2000 was something special. The best medal of all of them and my most indelible moment.”

Karch Kiraly on Regla Torres:

“Yes I saw Regla Torres playing and I really have no words to describe how good she was. Nobody could stop her.” (We totally agree! She’s the Queen of Volleyball!)
