As long as Sebastian Sole is on the team, then we’re good. Hah!
And this guy right here…
After failing to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Argentina had so much work to do to rebuild its men’s volleyball team. Under Coach Weber and a successful junior program, a new breed of young players joined the selection and brought positive results. Argentina’s success in the last 4 years includes a 4th placed at last year’s World League, a decent performance at the 2011 World Cup and qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics in front of their home crowd.
With the magical hands of Luciano De Cecco and the amazing all around game of Facundo Conte, Argentina is definitely a contender to win a medal. If they want to win gold, then they better hope their inconsistent opposite hitter Federico Pereyra will play his “A-Game” in London. He is the team’s transitional hitter which requires consistency and reliability.
Without further ado, we proudly present the 12 athletes representing Argentina at the 2012 Olympics:
Opposite Hitters: Federico Pereyra, Iván Castellani
Setters: Luciano De Cecco, Nicolas Uriarte
Middle Blockers: Sebastián Solé, Pablo Crer, Gabriel Arroyo
Outside Hitters: Nicolas Bruno, Facundo Conte, Rodrigo Quiroga, Cristian Poglajen
Libero: Alexis González
Argentina is in Pool A with Italy, Poland, Great Britain, Bulgaria and Australia.
Before flying to London, the Argentinians will head to Poland first to play at the 2012 Hubert Wagner Tournament from July 20th-22nd. This seems like a good tournament to tune up the team before the Games but we seriously hope none of the players will get injured.
Have fun and Save Travels to our BBs from Argentina!
