Got Drama?
After a disappointing performance & getting eliminated from the first round of the ongoing Women’s European Championship, Bulgaria’s coach Marcello Abbondanza has reportedly resigned from his position. We’ve also received a report that Marcello has departed for Italia without informing Bulgarian officials.
Source says…
“Marcello is very sad and quite embarrassed with how his team performed at the European Champs. He has no idea if the Bulgarian Federation would want him back OR he still wants to coach the team. He believes that he failed to do his job as a coach to lead Bulgaria to the next round and even to the semifinal round. He is seeking time off and will soon report to the Federation.”
Bulgaria lost to Czech Republic in a 5 set match which ended their Euro Volley journey.
Source adds…
“Bulgaria had a successful World Grand Prix and the team was expected to make it to the Final 4. The main problem was that Bulgaria peaked during the Grand Prix but miserably failed to maintain its level at Euro Volley and this is the part that breaks Marcello’s heart. He loves the team and he loves his job but it just didn’t all work out.”
Ayayi!
Well we hope Marcello emotionally recovers from this and resume his position. If not, then he might as well tell the Bulgarian Federation on what went wrong and share some recommendations for the team to succeed in future tournaments.
In case you didn’t know, Marcello has been hired to coach Turkish club team Fenerbahce this coming season.
