We’re glad to share the news that this racist fan was kicked out of the gym and arrested by police when the incident happened a couple of days ago.
The man kept yelling at the middle blocker with some racial slurs such as “”Monkey”, “That monkey wants a banana!” and “throw the ball at that monkey!”
The 2 time Olympic Champion then took her emotions to social media by posting this on her FB Page:
Vivenciar isso é difícil e duro!Vivenciar isso na minha terra, torna tudo pior! Ontem durante o jogo contra o Minas, um senhor disparava uma metralhadora de insultos racistas em minha direção. Era macaca quer banana, macaca joga banana, entre outras ofensas. Esse tipo de ignorância me atingiu especialmente, porque meus familiares estavam assistindo a partida. Ele foi prontamente retirado do ginásio pela direção do Minas Tênis Clube e encaminhado à delegacia. Agradeço a atitude do Minas, em não ser conivente com esse absurdo. Clube este, onde comecei a minha história e onde até hoje tenho pessoas queridas. Refleti muito sobre divulgar ou não, mas penso que falar sobre o racismo ajuda a colocar em discussão o mundo em que vivemos e queremos para nossos filhos. Eu não preciso ser respeitada por ser bicampeã olímpica ou por títulos que conquistei, isso é besteira! Eu exijo respeito por ser Fabiana Marcelino Claudino, cidadã, um ser humano. A realidade me mostra que não fui a primeira e nem serei a última a sofrer atos racistas, mas jamais poderia me omitir. Não cabe mais tolerarmos preconceitos em pleno século XXI. A esse senhor, lamento profundamente que ache que as chicotadas que nossos antepassados levaram há séculos, não serviriam hoje para que nunca mais um negro se subjugue à mão pesada de qualquer outra cor de pele. Basta de ódio! Chega de intolerância!

I demand respect for being Fabiana Claudino Marcelino, a citizen, a human being. Reality shows me that I wasn’t the first nor will be the last to suffer such racist acts, but I can’t ignore it. The prejudice in the 21st century shouldn’t be tolerated anymore. No more hate! Enough with intolerance!”
