Polish Volleywood superstar has decided to end his $600,000 contract with JT Thunders and will no longer play in the Japanese League this season.
THE REASON? He is not healthy enough.
Kurek’s Statement
“Due to interest of my health I want to present a valid information about this topic.
Last club season and the Olympic Games have brought me a lot of physical and mental power and I was ready to give 100% of myself. Thank you to the national team and the staff of Asseco Resovia.
After the Olympic Games, the level of disappointment about the result was very high but I was happy to take new challenges with the new team. When I returned to training sessions this September, my body had a surprising reaction.
Exhaustion caused by the years of constant playing has resulted mental burn off. As a result of that, I lost something that I always had – passion and a will to play. I am in the moment of my career where health is more important even than the biggest contract of my career.
I can’t describe by the words how grateful I am that I entered the most difficult period in my career while I was a player of JT Thunders. Coach Veselin Vukovic and the board of the club have fully understood me and my problem and that could be an example to the other clubs. I think they deserve to be respected and they deserve a player who can contribute in order to achieve some goals.
I know that in this moment I can’t give anything. That’s why I’m not going to play for JT Thunders. I’m so sorry that the offer to play in such a great club has come to me in this moment of my career. In this moment I want to use my free time to rest and to regenerate to return as soon as possible. Thanks once again to JT Thunders and support of my closest ones”
Kurek’s manager, Kakub Michalak, has dismissed rumors that the main reason he is not going to Japan is because of his girlfriend who plays in Poland. Kakub also revelas that his client has lost weight and has undergone some medical tests for health reasons.
As of press time, we’ve been informed Kurek may play for his former club team, SKRA BELCHATOW.
