The 2012 Olympic silver medalist tells globoesporte.globo.com that the Korean League is NOT IDEAL for any high level players because of their extreme training sessions. He might have enjoyed the culture but HE DID NOT have a memorable experience with this club team, Suwon KEPCO Vixtorm.
“The experience from Korea is good. I saw their country, culture, they are very special. People are very kind and subway system works perfectly. But, for a high level player, it’s not the best place to be. I don’t know where I will continue career but this year was a very difficult for me.
It was really tough.
The league is not ideal, and training system is like in the military. There are hours and hours of endless training. I injured my knee there and also I hurt my back. I ended up in the hospital. It was a very difficult two months for me.”
In all fairness to Leandro, this is the MOST COMMON feedback we’ve heard from foreign players who have played in the Korean League.
Take note, all foreigners are expected to pretty much score for their team and they must WIN. It the athlete fails to meet the team’s expectations, then the athlete gets replaced in a blink of an eye.
As of press time, the 31 year old has not committed to any team. Rumor has it he will return to Brazil.
