This is MAJOR!!!
Italian volleyball superstar Ivan Zaytsev will play for Dinamo Moscow in the Russian Super League starting next season.
After leading Macerata to win the 2013/2014 season of the Italian League, the outside-hitter-turned-opposite-hitter will spread his wings in one of the world’s BEST professional leagues.
The father-to-be made the announcement a few days ago:
“I will play for Dinamo Moscow next season. It will be an interesting adventure. Glad that I can often see my parents because theu live in St. Petersburg”.
In case you didn’t know, Ivan is the son of former Russian player Vyacheslav Zaytsev, who played for the USSR team and won gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
We think that Zaytsev’s transfer to Russia is going to hurt the Italian League even more.
Ivan is obviously the league’s BIGGEST star and marketing matches without him will somewhat affect the league. The Italian League has struggled for years now facing lots of financial problems. Consequently, Some of the world’s best players like Cristian Savani, Ivan Miljkovic, Dragan Travica, Matt Anderson, Matey Kaziyski & Osmany Juantorena have left the league to seek greener pastures in Russia and Turkey.
On the other hand, we remain optimistic that other great players will make the 2014/2015 Italian League still interesting, competitive and entertaining.
Knowing it gets really cold in Russia, we guess we won’t see this side of Ivan anymore.
Hah!
Good luck BB!
