Yehey!
We’re so happy with this news!
Two time Olympic silver medalist world champion Lioubov Sokolova has reportedly decided to play for Russia at the 2014 FIVB World Championship later this year in Italia.
A source familiar with the news says…
“Lyuba really took her time with this decision. After talking to Coach Yuri Marichev, they both agreed that her presence would be needed and her experience will play a vital role as Russia tries to defend the crown they’ve won in 2006 and 2010.”
The source also adds that Lyuba’s longtime teammate is not on board yet.
“Gamova has made up her mind and she will not play with the National Team anytime soon. She is really focusing on her personal life now that she’s married. Katya has been very vocal about her decision. Coach respects her decision but at the same time she’s always welcome to join the team.”
It’d be great to see Gamova and Sokolova together again on the same side. The last time they played together for Russia was at the 2012 Olympics.
Sokolova rejoined the team last year and competed at the World Grand Champions Cup with Russia finishing 4th.
So Happy Lyuba Is Back!
Before we forget, Lyuba is busy with her Russian club team, Krasnodar, in the ongoing Russian League Playoffs.
