A day after he announced he is taking some time away from volleyball, Matt posted this message on his Fan Page:
“Big things are ahead and I want to be ready!
As this season gets underway here in Russia and I re-join my team in Kazan, I have realized it is time to take a break. This year has been so amazing winning the FIVB World League. Then we went to Poland for an incredible World Championships where we played brilliantly at times but came out below where we wanted to be. There was really no time for a break between the World Championships and the Club season, so I think it is best for me to take some time off right now. I love my Club here in Kazan and we have discussed the issue thoroughly. I am happy to say that they support my decision to take a break, even though they are disappointed that I will be leaving the team right now. I will now give my body time to recover fully and focus on helping the U.S. qualify for the 2016 Olympics next year, while spending some important time with my family back in the States.
Big things are ahead and I want to be ready!

We are still speechless from this news…
Matt has decided to temporarily quit his volleyball career as he tries to recover from depression.
Matt Anderson’s Statement via Zenit-Kazan:
“First of all, I would like to stress that this decision has nothing to do with a conflict with any of my teammates or our coach, or even with the management of Zenit.
Everything here in Kazan has been always organized at the highest level. I decided to stop my career, and this is entirely my decision because I feel tired of volleyball. Ever since I started playing professionally, I almost had no chance to see my family. Because of this I do not feel comfortable and have been dealing with stress.
This critical condition and home sickness have reached their peak before the start of this season. I thought I could stand and overcome depression, but in the end I was wrong. I will miss the remainder of the season, but I am not finished with volleyball yet. I just want to have a break. I think that this break will help me get back the passion and love for the game.
I am grateful to our fans for all the support they provided. I hope they will understand me and my decision.”
As of press time, Matt is reportedly on his way back to the United States to be with his family.
Stay tuned…
