The 29 year old is now a Russian citizen!
2004 Olympic bronze medalist and 2008 Olympian, Rosir Calderon, can now play for the Russian National Team if she decides to. Her application has been approved by the FIVB and her Russian club team, Dinamo Krasnodar, has announced the news on its website:
“I would like to thank the Russian Volleyball Federation for the help and assistance in resolving this case. Change of sport nationality is not an easy procedure. It needs time and patience.
This afternoon, the FIVB confirmed that Rosir Calderon doesn’t only have a Russian passport but also a Russian nationality which allows her to play for the Russian National Team.”
Knowing that the Russian Team needs a strong player like Calderon, we won’t be surprised if she gets the invitation to represent Russia starting next year and maybe up at the 2016 Olympics if they qualify.
As far as we know, Calderon last played for Cuba at the 2008 Olympics and the team finished 4th.
In 2009, she became a mother and sadly lost her father, former Cuban Coach Felipe Calderon, after a long illness.
After leaving Cuba, she has played in the Turkish League and Russian League. She currently plays for Dinamo Krasnodar in Russia together with Sokolova, Kosheleva and Fe Garay.
