We kind of expected these 2 stars to stay with Eczacibasi.
The Turkish women’s club of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL has extended its contracts with several key players for the next season.
As local media report, five of Eczacibasi’s players have signed up to compete for the Turkish powerhouse for two more years. The team that finished fourth in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women will continue to rely on the services of major international star Neslihan Demir. The opposite of Eczacibasi was honored as the Best Spiker during the Final Four Awarding Ceremony in Baku last month.
Croatian middle blocker Maja Poljak is another international standout who will continue playing for Eczacibasi VitrA next season. The two 30-year-old stars have also been joined in extending their contracts by setter Asuman Karakoyun, libero Gülden Kuzubasioglu and middle blocker Büsra Cansu.
After finishing third in the regular season of the domestic Acibadem Ligi, Eczacibasi VitrA started the playoffs by knocking out Ilbank ANKARA with two quarterfinal victories by 3:0 away and 3:1 at home and qualifying for the semifinals. Lorenzo Micelli’s squad is also about to embark on a quest for the Teledunya Super Cup with the Final Four tournament starting on Friday in Izmir.
Eczacıbaşı VitrA is a strong team and definitely one of Turkey’s strongest teams together with Vakifbank and Fenerbahce. In order for them to compete against world class club teams, especially in the Champions League (if they qualify – which we expect they will), they need a reliable outside hitter and setter. Neslihan can’t do it all anymore.
Rumor has it that American outside hitter Jordan Larson might join Eczacıbaşı next season.
