At 34, he still got game…
In an interview released by siatka.org, the 2000 Olympic Champion states that he has not thought of retiring from volleyball and that Turkey is THE PLACE to be for volleyball players to play in high level and of course make a lot of $$$.
Retirement…
“I don’t know. I don’t think about retirement. My focus is on current season. I have a contract with Fenerbahce until the end of the 2013/2014 season and then we will see. But, I still enjoy playing volleyball a lot and I do not know when will I say stop.”
Turkish League…
“At the moment, money is in Turkey. They are investing in some of the world’s best volleyball players. If such players continue to come and play in the Turkish League every year, then league will grow rapidly and become even stronger.”
On why he has never played in the Russian League and if there’s any regret knowing that the Russian League is reportedly the most competitive of all…
“Honestly, I don’t. And, why should I? For example – I didn’t win the gold medal on World Championship, so should I play for the national team until I win it? I don’t think so. At the moment I am happy that I play in Turkey.”
We love the fact that he is very honest and very direct with his answers.
Good luck this season Daddy King Ivan!
