Oh no! Kenya is prepared for the worst!
Kenya is scheduled to host the Women’s Club Championship from March 30th – April 10th, 2011 in Nairobi but the Federation’s preparations for this prestigious event in Africa might not meet the deadline. The progress is too slow and the chairman is starting to embrace their fate! In case they fail to host the annual tourney, Kenya’s volleyball teams will get banned and fined by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).
Yikes!
According to THIS ARTICLE, the CAVB has donated the “floor” for the tournament to help Kenya but unfortunately the Kenyan Treasury has not responded to the request of the Federation to waive the TAX which cost $6,358.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) chairman Waithaka Kioni is starting to lose hope and has stated this:
“But as things look, we might be forced to eat a humble pie and pull out from hosting the event. This has got its consequences, leave alone being a national shame for Kenya.”
The CAVB officials will visit Kenya next week to speak with the Federation and evaluate if they are ready or not to host this annual event.
Well we hope that the Treasury will WAIVE the tax and allow the Federation to stage the event and avoid the penalties.
This sucks!
We’re optimistic that the issues will be resolved. We’re crossing our fingers and toes on this one.
Side Dish: Their women’s team was a fan favorite at the 2010 World Championship although they failed to win a match. Their energy and fighting spirite were appreciated by Japanese fans and fans from all over the world.
