Volleyball Tip Of The Day: Move Your Feet
The ball very rarely comes directly to you in the game of volleyball.
One of the hardest things to get campers to do is to move there feet to the ball instead of falling over.
We work on footwork, a small step and a shuffle, for them to get to a small area around them but if that ball is outside that area they need to turn and run after it as fast as they can.
The star drill is a great exercise as well as agility ladders to teach them to be quick to the ball while staying down instead of standing up to move and going back down.
Last but not least, they need to learn how to move their feet with their hands apart from each other. Usain Bolt doesn’t run the 100M dash with his hands together so neither should volleyball players.
If their hands are together, they lose time and speed to the ball resulting in them not getting it most of the time. Make sure you are effective in your foot movements and stable with your upper body always getting into a solid base position to pass the ball.
We have feet and legs to move so make sure you use them!!!
