Volleyball Tip Of The Week: Stretching

When I was young I could start spiking balls without stretching at any time of the day.

Now that I’m much older it’s so important for me to stretch 3 times a day, when I wake up, before and after practice. One of my teammates has never stretched in his life and still performs at such a high level. In my opinion, it’s so important to stretch to keep those muscles elongated and safe from injury.

One of the easiest ways to gain a couple inches on your vertical is to stretch and who doesn’t want to jump a couple inches higher. Like everything in life, what works for one might not work for the other. In my volleyball camps we only stretch for a couple minutes before we get going and it works great for everyone. Some might need a little longer and if your that person, you might need to get to the gym a couple minutes earlier. In a perfect world, I think 4 stretches for both the legs and arms along with a couple for the abs and you should be ready to rock and roll.

If you have a couple minutes in the morning when you wake up and before you go to bed to stretch, will help you feel fresh and allow you perform at a higher level!!!
