It’s raining volleyballs in Haiti!
The Volleyball Federation of Haiti received a donation of one thousand volleyballs as part of the development initiatives put in place by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the NORCECA Confederation.
The FIVB and NORCECA have been working closely to kick-start the expansion of volleyball in Haiti by promoting the practice of the sport by children and creating better conditions for young and promising players.
Milagros Cabral, the former captain of the women’s Dominican national team and currently Sports Director in Santo Domingo for the Ministry of Sports, presented the donation to a delegation from Haiti who crossed the border that divides the two countries for the occasion. The ceremony took place at the Volleyball Complex at the Olympic Center in the Dominican Republic capital.
Cabral, who has collaborated with the FIVB and NORCECA, expressed her satisfaction at being able to contribute to the evolution of volleyball in Haiti.
“The National Federation of Haiti is committed to growing the sport of volleyball in all the regions of the country working with children and youth,” Cabral said.
“On behalf of FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° and NORCECA President Mr Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, we have the honour to present this significant donation that I am sure will receive an optimal use by the volleyball authorities of Haiti,” Cabral added.
Paola Diewdonne Jean, delegate of the Haitian Volleyball Federation, who was accompanied by several players of both genders, expressed his gratitude to both the FIVB and NORCECA for the donation.
“The Haiti National Federation is so grateful for this wonderful equipment assistance that will go a long way in developing the game of volleyball in Haiti,” Diewdonne said. “Once again, we want to thank the presidents of FIVB and NORCECA for their invaluable efforts in favor of our country.”
On their recent trip to Haiti, FIVB President Graça and NORCECA President Marte Hoffiz participated in the inauguration of the Sport for Hope Centre, an International Olympic Committee initiative supported by the FIVB, the NORCECA Confederation, National Olympic Committees and international sports federations.
Teams from Haiti have also been traveling to the Dominican Republic for friendly matches with different universities and local clubs as part of NORCECA’s development programme for national federations in Categories 1 and 2.
