Volleyball Canada & Mizuno To The Rescue

Thank you so much for all those who helped these girls. Everyone in the volleyball world deeply appreciates it.

In case you didn’t know:

From Danika T:

My hometown of Fort McMurray, AB, Canada has gone up in flames it’s been a week since the fires started at 1200 hectares. The town was put on a mandatory evacuation Tuesday (May 3rd) at 620pm and 88,000 people safely made it out of town on the one road out of town. They went north towards the oil sands work camps or north toward smaller cities and eventually on to cities like Edmonton and Calgary.

These girls left with silver medals after many of them not even having time to grab items from home let alone volleyball gear! Volleyball Canada and Mizuno hooked them up with gear and they played their hearts out focusing on the game even when a terrible disaster is going on at home. I feel I needed to share this with you for our mutual love of the game.

From Emma Mckay:

I am so unbelievably proud of these girls this weekend. After being evacuated on Tuesday evening, with nationals planned for the coming weekend, we all managed to make it to Edmonton safely to play together.

Unfortunately, most of us had to leave without gear, but that’s where volleyball Alberta comes in, and so many other teams. Being donated brand new mizuno shoes, shorts, sports bras, jerseys, sweat pants and sweaters was above and beyond any expectation. Teams coming to support us from all over Alberta and show their love.

Going almost a whole season with no medal and then this weekend winning a second place silver medal Despite everything going on back in Fort McMurray, we managed to take some time to focus on what we love, and play for our city.

And in the end of it all, this was the last tournament I will ever play now that I’m graduating. So greatful I got to spend my last year with these beautiful ladies, and wonderful coaches. ‪#‎albertastrong‬
