Wlazly truly deserves this award.
He left the Polish National Team in 2010 due to conflict with the people behind the squad and fans nearly accepted the fact that he would never represent Poland ever again.
BUT THAT CHANGED in 2014.
With the Coach Anastasi’s resignation and the hiring of former French player Stephane Antiga, the 31 year old Mariusz had a chance of heart and formally accepted Antiga’s invitation to play again.
HEADLINES
Of course his returnn made national headlines as well world headlines. The opposite hitter, who had a previously won a silver medal at the 2006 World Championship, had limited appearances throughout the 2014 FIVB World League. Poland finished 7th and was not among the top favorites to win the succeeding tournament, the World Championship, they were hosting.
WORLD CHAMPION
As we all know, Wlazly and Poland won the World Championship crown versus Brazil. In front of thousands of fans, Mariusz was also awarded as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
He then announced that he will no longer represent Poland.
With the Olympics next year, we hope he reopens the door. He is too valuable and too precious not to play.
Mariusz is still playing professionally with his Polish club team Skra Belchatow.
