The 2011 World League is less than 2 days away!
Before the prestigious tourney kicks off, let’s take a first look at the National Team of Serbia.
They had a successful 2010 season by finishing 3rd at the 2010 World League and 2010 World Championship led by 2 great veterans, Nikola Grbic and Ivan Miljkovic.
Now that these 2 players have unofficially retired from the team, Serbia now relies on the leadership of the newly appointed captain Bojan Janic together with Kovacevic and 2 great middles Pordrascanin and Stankovic. The young lefty, Starovic, replaces Miljkovic while Petkovic is the new main setter of the team.
Before arriving in Argentina for this weekend’s debut matches, Janic and Team traveled to Bulgaria and Brazil for a series of friendly matches.
Luckily, we found these pictures from OSSRB.
In case you didn’t know, Serbia is in Pool C together with Argentina, Finland and Portugal (who replaced Egypt).
Before accepting his title as the team captain, Janic made it a point to acknowledge his predecessor, Nikola Grbic. ““It is a great honour to be the team captain after Nikola Grbic, who set high standards with his play and also as a leader of the team. He is a true example of what the captain should be. I will try to follow his steps, because we all learned a lot from him.” according to Janic who made his debuted with the Serbian team back in 2002.
Bojan will make a great captain. No doubt.
We wish Serbia the best! Despite the absence of the Nikola and Ivan, we remain confident that they will have another successful season.
Do you think Serbia will medal at the 2011 World League?
We think they will.
