We prayed to the NCAA gods and goddesses to grant Stanford, the Defending Champs, a spot (at large berth) in the Fina Four but sadly it won’t happen.
If could’ve been a different story if USC won the MPSF Final Match against the #7 seeded UCSB but with the Gauchos making history and causing a major upset last night, it’s officially OVER for Brad Lawson, Erik Shoji, Spencer McLachlin and Stanford’s Men’s Volleyball Team.
The Cardinal posted this statement on their official Facebook Page:
The 2011 season is officially done now that UCSB has upset USC. Had USC won, the criteria for selection to the NCAA’s as the at-large indicated that we would have been chosen. Tthat won’t happen now. Bummer..
Congratulations to our guys for a good season in which the senior’s became the most successful class in the program’s history. We appreciate all that everyone has put into this program to make it great again! Thank you to our awesome seniors, Ian Connolly, Garrett Dobbs, Max Halvorson, Charley Henrikson, Jordan Inafuku & Spencer McLachlin. Thanks for raising the bar for Stanford Volleyball. We love you!
Awwww we love them too! We really appreciate their effort to inform their fans about their fate and also acknowledge their great seniors. We will forever be a Cardinal Fan!
We wish everyone the best! We can’t wait to see a stronger Stanford team with stronger middles next season!
Cheers!
(Will the BYU Cougars will release any statement too? We Don’t Think So!)
If the Stanford players get a little sad, they can always look back and cherish this moment:
