We actually thought Wilfredo Leon would receive the MVP Award since he led his team, Zenit Kazan, to win their first FIVB Club World Championship title but we were wrong. The award was given to silver medalist Osmany Juantorena from Italian club team Cucine Lube Civitanova.
After the gold medal match, Os shared a few words to the FIVB press:
“I’m really happy with the MVP award, but honestly I would have preferred to be the winner tonight.”
He is now THE only player in the world to have 4 MVP awards. The 32 year old Olympic silver medalist won the other 3 in 2010, 2011 and 2012 when he played for another Italian club team, Trentino Volley.
