Sadly, Australia has lost their first 3 matches (0-3 vs USA, 0-3 vs Italy and 1-3 Japan) after the first round of the ongoing FIVB World Cup.
After the Volleyroos’ disappointing defeat against Japan, star player Thomas Edgar could not hide his frustrations during the post match conference:
“Not too many words to say about today’s match.
I’m embarrassed and ashamed by how our team showed up. We did not have any heart or aggressiveness. We have another game in two days. This wasn’t good enough. Japan played well in counterattack. We need to make fewer mistakes and be more aggressive.
Honestly, we can’t play like this anymore. It’s just not good enough! In the second set we showed that we are able to fight back but it’s not satisfaction for me.
We lost the game and I feel horrible when I leave the court”
Australia is currently ranked last out of 12 teams.
With 8 more matches to go, hope they raise up their game.
Good luck Volleyroos!
