Still no Matey Kaziyski but the 2013 roster still looks very promising!
Since last week, some Bulgarian players have joined the first training camp of the year in Sofia.
Noticeably missing are Boyan Yordanov (who is reportedly exhausted from a long season). Nikolay Nikolov, Teodor Todorov, Metodi Ananiev and Kostadin Gadzhanov are recovering from injuries and no confirmation if they’d be able to compete this year. Veteran player Vladimir Nikolov has retired from the international scene but currently works as the team manager.
Star setter Andrey Zhekov’s return to the team is still up in the air since he has not played for almost a year after boycotting the team due to internal conflict.
The Bratoev siblings will resume training in the coming weeks.
The following players currently at camp:
Opposite Hitter: Tsvetan Sokolov
Outside Hitters: Nikolay Penchev, Zlatan Yordanov, Metodi Ananiev, Rosalyn Penchev
Setters: Ivan Stanev, Dobromir Dimitrov
Middle Blockers: Nikolay Nikolov, Victor Yosifov, Konstantin Gadzhanov, Svetoslav Gotsev, Borislav Apostolov, Georgi Chalakov
Liberos: Teodor Salparov, Martin Bozhilov, Dobromir Ivanov
As for the upcoming Word League, here’s Bulgaria’s preliminary roster:
Setters: Georgi Bratoev, Dobromir Dimitrov, Ivan Stanev, Georgi Seganov
Receivers: Todor Aleksiev, Valentin Bratoev, Todor Skrimov, Nikolay Penchev, Rozalin Penchev, Stanislav Petkov, Miroslav Gradinarov
Opposites: Tsvetan Sokolov, Danail Milushev, Nikolay Uchikov, Todor Vulchev
Middle blockers: Victor Yosifov, Svetoslav Gotsev, Borislav Apostolov, Stoyan Samunev, Krasimir Georgiev
Liberos: Teodor Salparov, Martin Bozhilov
Salporov is still recovering after a knee surgery and he is very optimistic to rejoin the team this summer if all goes well.
