Francesca Piccinini <3 Bergamo!

It appears that Francesca Piccinini’s love for Italian club team, Bergamo, is infinite.

The so-called Queen of Italian Volleyball has renewed her contract for 3 more year$. After winning the 2010/2011 Italian League, rumors circulated that Picci was planning on playing for another team ( Volley Modena?) but the reports just fizzled.

Anyways, the Queen released this statement:

Cari tifosi,

vi ho salutati i primi giorni di giugno con la coppa dello scudetto 2010/2011 in mano. Uno scudetto conquistato con il cuore, immagine che ho disegnato sulla spalla di tutte le mia compagne prima delle ultime epiche partite di finale e che oggi per tutte noi atlete è diventato un tatuaggio. Vi racconto questa storia per cercare di trasmettervi quanto io e le ragazze della Norda Foppapedretti abbiamo voluto la vittoria, talmente tanto da farlo diventare un ricordo indelebile sulla nostra pelle».

Vi ritrovo oggi per annunciare il mio rinnovo con il Volley Bergamo, ho firmato un contratto che mi legherà ancora a questa città per altri tre anni, forse per sempre. Questa firma ha un valore speciale, potrebbe essere il mio ultimo contratto, sarà certamente l’ultimo in Italia. Ho scelto ancora Bergamo perché ho voluto investire su questo nuovo progetto. Tutti noi conosciamo le problematiche legate al PalaNorda, alle offerte della città di Montichiari, alla necessità del volley rossoblù di avere un nuovo impianto sportivo, alla crisi economica che ha falcidiato i nostri sponsor».

Questa è una famiglia, che mi ha fatto crescere e vincere, è una Società seria che ha radici lontane nel tempo e da sempre lavora per raggiungere grandi traguardi. Con questa maglia giocano centinaia di ragazzine, a cui viene insegnato ogni giorno lo spirito di sacrificio e come si lavora in squadra. Alla città di Bergamo ed ai bergamaschi chiedo di credere ed investire sulla pallavolo e sul Volley Bergamo. Sono massese di nascita ma bergamasca per adozione, credo di esserne titolata».

«Andare via sarebbe stato forse uno stimolo diverso, ma se si vuole, gli stimoli, si trovano anche a casa propria e io qui sono a casa. Sarebbe stato inimmaginabile indossare un’altra maglia e incontrare Bergamo da avversaria. Sarebbe stato impossibile, perché Bergamo per me è come la Nazionale: non si può cambiare nazionalità e andare ad affrontare la propria storia e le proprie origini».

Ora ricominciamo con questo tanto desiderato scudetto disegnato sulla maglia. Ripartiamo da lì. Un pensiero corre alle compagne che ci salutano ed alle nuove con cui vivremo l’avventura del prossimo campionato».

Based on her statement, it seems like Picci is preparing herself to retire from the sport but we could be wrong. She is such a great athlete and definitely one of the world’s most complete players.
