UPDATE: Grozer will take some time off from the National Team.
After that heartbreaking loss to Poland yesterday, we can’t blame him.
One of the world’s best players and one of Volleywood’s biggest stars from Germany, Georg Grozer, is retiring from volleyball and vows to keep the promise he made with his wife to spend more time with his family.
In an article released by the FIVB, Grozer says:
“I was going to announce the suspension of my international career after the Olympics. Unfortunately, I’m not going to have that chance now. I certainly won’t play in the national colours for at least a year or two. What happens after that, I don’t know.”
If only the Olympics has more room for European teams then Germany deserves a spot to play in Rio.
Sadly, things didn’t end the way Grozer and team wanted.
The 32 year old has been Germany’s best player and most reliable scoring machine. He led his team to win a gold medal at the 2009 European League and a bronze medal at the 2014 World Championship. As for his individual success with the National Team, he has won a lot of awards like being named as Germany’s best player for 5 consecutive years from 2010 – 2014.
He is currently playing in the Korean League with Samsung Bluefangs.
Grozer, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE VOLLEYBALL MEMORIES YOU HAVE SHARED TO US!
You have inspired so many volleyball players from all over the world. As you begin a new chapter in your life, we wish you the BEST!
PS: Grozer has named Simon Hirsch as his successor. Also, we have a feeling he will return before the 2020 Olympics. Maybe he is just burned out? Maybe he needs a long break? Only the future knows…
Eine Woche vor dem Start der Olympia-Quali in Berlin muss unser #Hammerschorsch noch einmal in Korea ran. Schaut euch…
