Germany’s Maren Brinker Retires From National Team

We thought she’d stay until 2020 and achieve her dream to play in the Olympics but guess not and we’re SAD.

Germany’s Maren Brinker Fromm has retired from the national team after Germany’s elimination from the 2018 FIVB World Championship. The outside hitter was with the team for 11 years and played in 321 matches.

After Germany’s last match at the World Champs, the press conference got emotional when her teammates surprised her with hugs and tearful goodbyes.

“My heart is bleeding because I have to leave, but the team will grow without me. It will be better not to have me as a mother always around.”

Coach Felix Koslowski also got teary eyed as he praised the 32 year old. “I’m sorry our captain is leaving. However, she is making space for your younger players.”

With Germany, the team captain won a silver medal at the 2011 and 2013 European Championship.

She was also named as Germany’s Best Female Volleyball Player in 2015 and 2016.

No word yet on what Maren plans to do next but it looks like she will focus on her personal life. At 32, one of her plans could possibly be start a family with husband & national team player Christian Fromm whom she married in 2017.

We wish you the best Maren and we can’t wait for your new adventures off the volleyball court.

DANKE CAPTAIN!!!
