Based on his last IG post, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist may be giving us a hint that he may no longer play for Italy after a disappointing exit at the World Championship.
The 33 year old is ready to pass the baton to younger players.
“I will make the decision with my family but it is difficult for me. I am not a kid anymore. I think it is time to give space to young players. I haven’t decided yet.”
With the 2020 Olympic Qualification to start next year, it will be very difficult for Italy to win an Olympic ticket. In Europe alone, there are a lot of strong teams like Poland, Russia, Serbia, France and Bulgaria. Let’s not forget The Netherlands who beat Brazil and France at the World Championship.
Italy needs Osmany as long as he remains healthy and in good shape. His leadership and experience will help the team for sure knowing that coach Blengini hasn’t had the time to develop another reliable outside hitter since the 2016 Olympics.
