They got rid of Przedpelski who was arrested a few months ago due to corruption.
We hope the new President will focus on the women’s team who has been struggling to achieve success in recent years.
Seriously.
The Polish Volleyball Federation chose former national team player Pawel Papke as its new president on Monday.
Papke succeeds Miroslaw Przedpelski, who resigned on Feb. 4 after being arrested in November on suspicion of corruption linked to the world volleyball championship, which Poland hosted last year. The state Central Anti-Corruption Office also detained an unnamed head of a security firm that was contracted for the championship.
The 38-year-old Papke, a lawmaker for the ruling pro-market Civic Platform party, was the only candidate and received 19 out of 20 votes, the federation said in a statement. He is to preside through the current term that ends in October 2016.
Papke was a hitter for Poland’s national team from 1996-2003. He retired before Poland grew into one of the world’s leading teams.
In September, Poland won the world championship at home. The country will host the European Championship in 2017.
At the time of Przedpelski’s arrest, the federation said investigators wanted to see documents concerning the organization of the world championship, which were made available.
On a motion from the prosecutors, the federation’s financing and promotion campaign were under scrutiny of the anti-corruption office in 2012, but the probe was discontinued.
Polish Volleyball Fans, do you like your NEW President? YES or NO?
