Coach Antiga is hoping his first season as Poland’s Coach will end with a medal at the World Championship.
It’s possible. He’s preliminary roster is a good mix of veterans and young players who will help him achieve his goals.
“I have called players with experience and whose quality is well-known. I have nominated 26 players because the season will be very long and we have many competitions ahead,” the French-born mentor said. Poland will start their campaign already in mid-May with the second round of qualification for the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship where they will take on Slovenia, Latvia and one team qualifying through the First Round. If they finish first at the end of the double round robin in Wroclaw and Ljubljana Poland will book their spot for the Final Round to be co-hosted by Bulgaria and Italy in September 2015.
The Polish national team will also participate in the FIVB World League as well as in the CEV Volleyball European League later this summer. This will be Poland’s debut in the European League where they were assigned to Pool A alongside the likes of Greece, Montenegro, Romania and Azerbaijan. “The calendar is very tight and the risk of an injury is always round the corner, so that is why I called 26 players,” Antiga stressed.
The players will meet on May 5 in Warsaw and straight away move to Spala to prepare for the start of the season. “I can’t way for that day to come. My wish is that our season will end on September 21 in Katowice, playing for a medal at the World Championship,” Antiga said.
