Don’t forget that there’s another world class player to join Poland next year. He is none other than former Cuban player and multi-awarded athlete WILFREDO LEON.
Poland won the World Championship without him so can you imagine how Poland would be with Leon playing for them starting next year? That’s right! Leon became a Polish citizen over a year ago after marrying his Polish girlfriend back in 2016.
The FIVB rule is that the player must wait for 2 years before he can play for another country. With Leon’s case, he is expected to make his Polish team debut at the 2019 European Championship. Together with Kubiak and Kurek, the trio are expected to lead Poland to win an Olympic ticket and go for gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
To think of it, Leon’s debut is a little less than a year away.
After 4 successful seasons with Russian club team Zenit Kazan, Leon will move to Italy this coming season and will play for Perugia.
