With a new coach and a new Olympic cycle, comes new faces on the NT.
Noticeably missing is 2012 Olympic gold medalist and 2011 World League gold medalist Maxim Mikhaylov who is reportedly taking a break after a long season with his club team Zenit Kazan. Maxim’s fellow Olympic champions Taras Khtey, Sergey Grankin, Alexander Butko, Yury Berezhko and Alexander Volkov are also missing from the roster.
As far we know this is the roster Russia will use against Iran in their first World League match on June 7th and 8th in Kaliningrad, Russia.
14 Player Preliminary Roster:
Setters: Sergei Antipkin, Sergey Makarov
Middle Blockers: Dmitry Musersky, Nicholas Apalikov, Andrew Aschev, Artem Volvich
Outside Hitters: Ilya Zhilin, Yevhen Sivozhelezov, Alexey Spiridonov, Dmitriy Ilyin
Opposite Hitters: Maxim Zhigalov, Nikolai Pavlov
Liberos: Artem Ermakov, Alex Verbov
2 players will be cut before the tournament begins.
In case you didn’t know, Russia is in Pool B with Iran, Italy, Cuba, Serbia and Germany.
