Russia Welcomes Lioubov Sokolova

October 14th, 2013

We had a feeling that one of Sokolova’s main reasons why she wants to play for Russia again is to somewhat take revenge versus the Brazilians & we are right! In case you didn’t know, Lyuba and Russia lost to Brazil in a heartbreaking quarterfinal match during the 2012 Olympics. Remember THIS MATCH?

Lyuba confesses that she wants to compete at the Grand Champions Cup because Brazil will also be there and it’d give her the chance to somewhat get even with Sheilla and Team.

“I perceive the upcoming match as an opportunity to take revenge for London.”

Dang Girl! Be careful with that revenge because you will either fail or succeed.

On the other hand, Coach Marichev has released this statement via RussiaVolley in regards to Sokolova’s return:

“I’m very happy that she returned to the team. I think the team will gain a lot with her back in squad. Most importantly, this is a great learning opportunity for young players. It is clear that coaches can teach something, but for the players are great teachers as well, where there is someone experienced standing next to them at the court that can teach, suggest something. And in this aspect, her return is so valuable.“

All we can say is that we can’t for Russia and Brazil to face each other again. Each time they play, it’s always an epic match.

Any Thoughts?

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Lyuba confirms the news that she is indeed rejoining the National Team as they prepare for the World Grand Champions Cup next month.

She tells ria.ru:

“I was invited to training camp before the Grand Champions Cup, and I said I was coming. I already spoke with the coach and the Russian Federation. I am very happy and will do everything in my power to make our team better. I also miss friends and staff. I am very happy to see them again.”

The 36 yr old last played for Russia at the 2012 Olympics.

On the other hand, there is NO word if Ekaterina Gamova will rejoin the team also. She has announced her retirement after the 2012 Olympics BUT rumor has it she will be back next year to help Russia defend its crown at the World Championship.

Imagine a Russian team with Sokolova, Gamova and Kosheleva together with the new breed of talented Russian athletes? Russia will for sure give any team out there a run for their money!

Watch out Brazil and USA!
