No Wonder His Name is Dick…

We’re a little upset at Dick.

The Netherlands’ men’s Coach Edwin Benne has released the 18-player preliminary roster for the upcoming European Pre-Olympic Qualification tournament to be held next month in Croatia from November 22nd – 27th. The winner advances to the European Qualification Tournament sometime next year.

First of all we’re so glad that after a long absence, the one and only Robert Horstink is on the list. Knowing he is one of the world’s best players the Netherlands has produced in the last few years, we hope he’ll be part of the final roster and help the Dutch team advance.

Now, the shocking part.

Outside hitter and eye candy, Dick Kooy, is NOT on the list because BB thinks that the team is not good enough. The level is below his standard. He even left the team during this past summer when Netherlands was still competing at the European League. What a Dick! Consequently, Coach Benne has decided to no longer invite DK moving forward.

We totally respect his decision but to diss your own team is such a terrible thing to do. Even when he was still on the team, the Dutch squad was never that strong. Since winning gold at the 1996 Olympics, the men’s program has gone south. We don’t really get what he’s trying to say about the Dutch team. In our opinion, it’s very disrespectful to leave the team in the middle of a major tournament (ie European League).

What has he achieved as a player? Nothing. If good looks count, then he’s got lots of it. Hahahaha!

We hope the Dutch team will perform well at next month’s tourney. We also hope they’d put up a great fight if they advance to the major Euro Qualification tourney. It’s going to be a tough road, but anything can happen!

As for Dick (who plays for Italian club team Casa Modena), we’re a bit disappointed BB. We still wish you the best!

Side Dish: The following players have been invited Nimir Abdelaziz, Nico Freriks, Gijs Jorna, Robbert Andringa, Tony Krolis, Niels Klapwijk, Kay van Dijk, Rob Bontje, Wytze Kooistra, Tije Flame, Lars Lorsheijd, Bas van Bemmelen, Jeroen Rauwerdink, Robert Horstink, Jeroen Trommel, Jelte Moon and Thijs ter Horst.
