According to our source, the Cuban middle blocker traveled to Canada last week to meet with federation officials.
Both parties reportedly discussed Simon’s chances of joining the Canadian National Team just in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
“Simon really want to play in the Olympics. He has no intentions of trying to play for Brazil because his friend Leal may already play for Brazil in a couple of years. The FIVB only allows 1 naturalized player to play on the national team. Out of respect to Leal, Simon is seeking other ways to achieve his Olympic dream.” says the source.
Again, this is just a rumor and nothing official.
It’d be awesome to see Simon with Canada, Leal with Brazil, Leon with Poland and Juantorena with Italy in the 2020 Olympics.
