Nancy Carrillo Stays With Volero

So happy for her!

After playing in 2 Olympics (bronze medal in 2004) and a few individual awards, Nancy Carrillo quit from the Cuban team in 2009.

She was then inactive for 2 years (Cuban rule), worked at a store in Cuba to make a living and gained weight (20 kilos) before she was finally allowed to play professional volleyball outside Cuba. She had a short stint in the Brazilian League but there was an issue with her transfer.

She then waited for a few months before signing a deal with Swiss club team, Volero Zurich, for the 2012/2013 season.

With the resurrection of her amazing and talented volleyball wings within the last few months, Volero is very impressed with her performance and so they decided to…

Extend her contract for 5 more years!

That’s awesome news for a Cuban athlete who went through so much before getting the freedom she enjoys now.

We wish other athletes stuck in Cuba get to do the same.

Congrats again Nancy!

We’re so happy for you! Maybe you can refer Aguero to your current team because her Italian club team, Modena, shut down and no word yet where she’s playing next.

In case you didn’t know, Nancy’s former teammates Yusidey Silie and the great Yumilka Ruiz are back in action too. Silie heads to Azerbaijan while Yumi has replaced Artamonova and now plays for Uralochka in the Russian League.
