Imagine playing in the final match against a team who left after the first set because they had to attend their prom?
WTH!
You read it right! They left because they had to get ready for their prom.
Players from Spanish River High’s boys volleyball team totally surprised their opponents from Columbus High when they started packing their stuff after losing the 1st set (27-25). The reason? The Spanish River boys had to attend their PROM!
“It’s a bit disappointing. We wanted to continue to play and get some more of the competition in.” per Columbus’ coach Greg Villareal.
We can totally understand how the coach feels. 16 teams committed to play and each worked and played hard to get to title match. Take note, 6 of the 16 teams who competed were nationally ranked in an ESPN boys volleyball poll.
No word yet if the team got their silver medals. We bet the players are very busy posting and tagging pics from their prom on Facebook and totally forgot the unpleasant impression they left at the Smoothie King Invitational tournament.
