Matt Anderson is the new hottest team captain!
With a new coach, John Speraw, and a new Olympic cycle comes a new set of players to represent the Red, White and Blue.
As expected, the world famous veterans of the team Reid Priddy and Clay Stanley are not on the roster and same with 2012 Olympians Donald Suxho and opposite hitter David McKienzie.
From what we know, Clay is getting married in July and will take the season off. No word yet on when he will join the team.
Sean Rooney is reportedly switching to beach volleyball.
Anywayys, here’s preliminary roster for the 2013 World League.
Setters: Kawika Shoji, Kyle Caldwell, Brian Thornton, Ryan Ammerman
Opposite Hitters: Evan Patak, Carson Clark
Middle Hitters: David Lee, Russell Holmes, Matthew Rawson, Maxwell Holt, David Smith
Outside Hitters: Jeffrey Menzel, Matthew Anderson, Paul Lotman, Troy Murphy, Antonio Ciarelli, Jayson Jablonsky, Garrett Muagututia, Bradley Lawson
Liberos: Rich Lambourne, Alfredo Reft, Erik Shoji
Out of all the players on this list, keep an eye on Max Holt. The middle blocker is playing incredible this season with his Italian club team, Copra Picenza.
Also watch out for Carson Clark, 2012 NCAA Champion, who is pretty much the first left handed opposite hitter to ever play for Team USA (?).
Libero Alfred Reft has also resumed his career after a brief retirement.
After a disappointing campaign at the 2012 Olympics, we hope these new players have what it takes to achieve more than their predecessors.
Thoughts?
