EXCLUSIVE!
Volleywood reached out to Becky about the change of nationality. We asked her what made her do it and What are her plans moving forward.
Becky says:
My mom has been working for years (since 2009) on getting all the documentation required to prove we are Italian and get our Italian passports.
Originally this was just a really cool concept my mom had. Sort of like a family heritage thing. But after I was told by Karch Kiraly that I most likely wouldn’t be receiving an invitation to train with USA in the future because I had already received two chances, I chose to switch federations.
My opportunity to play for team USA was no longer an option. And this way I can be counted as a domestic player in the Italian league. It’s a wonderful feeling. I can’t explain it. But it’s taken a lot of work from my mom especially and many other people around me to make this happen.
Just to be able to say I’m an Italian volleyball player is enough.
Becky also mentioned that she’d play for Italy if she ever gets the invitation to play.
Thank you and good luck Becky!
