Sad.
Brazil has NOT won any major FIVB tournament (silver 2014 World League and 2014 World Champs) since winning the 2013 Grand Champions Cup and it looks like they may settle for another SILVER medal due to the possible absence of Wallace aka Brazil’s Best Opposite Hitter.
According to Coach Rezende:
“Wallace felt pain in his back and we still don’t know if he will play against France. If not, it will be a heavy blow for us. In case he won’t make it, I brought back Vissotto.”
No wonder Vissotto was back in the gym the other day and posted this on his IG:
Joining Leandro is perhaps the future of Brazilian Volleyball and he is none other than …
Evandro Guerra.
The setback doesn’t end there.
Coach Rezende also adds that one of his best middle blockers, RIAD, is out due to a partial tear of a tendon in his right knee.
Coach R will now rely on his other middles Lucas, Eder and Isaac in the Final 6.
Riad has confirmed the news on his IG:
Below is Brazil’s roster for the Final 6:
Setters: Bruno Rezende, William Arjona
Opposites: Wallace De Souza (?), Evandro Guerra, Leandro Vissotto
Middle Blockers: Lucas Saatkamp, Isac Santos, Eder Carbonera, Riad Ribeiro
Outside Hitters: Ricardo Lucarelli, Murilo Endres, Felipe Fonteles, Lucas Loh
Liberos: Sergio Dutra Santos, Mario Da Silva Pedreira Junior.
Brazil is in the same pool with defending champions USA and Group 2 winners France.
