We’re not sure if she has retired from the national team like her former teammates Fabiana Claudino and Sheilla Castro.
Two time Olympic champion, Jaqueline Carvalho, is NOT on the preliminary roster announced by head coach Ze Roberto Guimaraes. According to our source, Coach ZRG is not too happy with Jaque’s form and performance this season.
“Ze will only invite her if she can prove to him she is in a better shape. Jaque had a so-so season with Minas in the Brazilian League. Her passing and defense are still there but she is no longer an efficient outside hitter. Ze is investing on several young athletes who have the potential to lead Brazil at the 2020 Olympics.” says a source.
Coach ZRG also announced that Dani Lins is taking time off because she wants to become a mother. Outside hitter Fe Garay is getting married later this year so she won’t also be on the team. Thaisa is injured and will also need another knee surgery. Gabi will be off the court for a knee injury that needs therapy.
This year, Brazil will rely on the most experienced players namely Natalia Pereira, Tandara, Adenizia and Juciely.
The following players have been invited to train with the national team.
Setters: Roberta, Naiane, Juma, Macris
Líberos: Léia, Suelen e Gabi
Middle Blockers: Bia, Adenízia, Carol, Mara, Juciely, Valquiria, Saraelen
Opposite Hitters: Tandara, Monique, Ana Paula Borgo
Outside Hitters: Natália, Gabi, Rosamaria, Drussyla, Amanda, Edinara, Fernanda Tomé
Brazil will compete at the 2017 Montreux Volley Masters early next month with this roster:

Middle Blockers: Bia, Adenízia, Carol, Mara

All we can say is that there are LOTS of new faces on this Brazilian squad. We’re excited!
