We don’t have full knowledge about the incident but a Volleywood Fan has shared this to us…
“I want to make a formal complaint about the incident that was directed to the Dominican team in the youth volleyball world championship in Peru in the 5th place match between Peru and the Dominican Republic.
After the Dominican Republic defeated Peru by 3-1, the players were celebrating and the Peruvian fans got angry and began throwing objects at the middle of the court injuring a Dominican player with a glass-bottle and she had to be taken to the hospital to get three stitches, also the Peruvian fans began to curse to this girls out and they had to be taken out from the stadium under the security of the event .
They were afraid of being attacked, the libero of the Dominican team was selected as the best passer of the world championship and she could not stay to wait for her award. I feel very upset because what happend the Dominican team could have been happend to another country and I think the FIVB to take action on the matter.
Watch this video and you can see when some Peruvian Fans start throwing bottles towards the Dominicans.
Our thoughts in general…
This is not something new to us. All we can say is, it is every volleyball fan’s responsibility to respect the winners, their home team’s opponents and the sport in general. Verbal attacks are common and might seem acceptable at time but when fans start to get physically abusive then it’s a big NO NO NO NO.
Let’s respect everyone regardless if the team we’re cheering for is the winner or the loser.
PS: There are 2 sides to every story. We’re still trying to research more about the incident.
