Poor Marlon…
After 5 years (that was quick!), 2004 Olympic gold medalist Ricardinho is finally back on the team just in time for 2012 Olympics.
“There was not a single day that I did not think about being back and I am so happy for returning. Meeting the players and the staff again has been great. I sit in my room at Aryzao (the Brazilian Development Center, in Saquarema) and remember all the good things I have being through here with the team.” according to the 36 year old setter.
It’s great to know how much he missed playing with the team but at the same time we really hope he has learned enough how to value the TEAM more than any amount of money in the world. Remember in 2007 when he and Coach Rezende got into some major major drama which led to Ricardinho quitting the squad a year before the Beijing Olympics? Rumor has it that he didn’t want to share the $$$ he won at the 2007 World League as the MVP.
Zing!
Glad to know the drama is all behind them now and Coach Rezende is glad to have him back. “He came with the goal of making what everyone expects from him, which is being a part of the group, with a very important role for the quality he has,” he said. “He can help a lot and we want to build a group with him.” according to Coach Bernardinho who was left with no choice but to cut Marlon from his 2012 squad.
As far as we know, Marlon is not too happy with Ricardinho’s return (DUH!) but at the same time he knew that this was bound to happen.
Joining Ricardinho on Brazil’s roster are Coach Rezende’s son and the other setter Bruno, outside hitters Giba, Murilo, Dante, Joao Paulo Bravo, Lucarelli and Mauricio, middle blockers Sidao, Lucas, Rodrigao and Eder, opposite hitters Theo, Wallace and Renan, liberos Sergio and Mario Junior.
