Thoughts on Italy…
Take note, Italy is implementing major changes with their line-up. Simona Gioli, who has received lots of accolades as one of the world’s best middle blockers, is now an opposite player. We’re not quite sure about this since in our opinion Gioli is Italy’s best middle blocker while Serena Ortolani deserves the starting position as the opposite hitter. If Coach Barbolini will indeed use this lineup for this year, then he would have to bench one of his 2 best players. But again, coach knows what he’s doing so we just have to wait and see if it will work out for Italia.
Also, Carolina Costagrande is officially on the Italian team after skipping last year’s invitation. The former star player of Argentina makes the Itaian team even stronger with her all around presence. Together with Bosetti, Piccinini and Del Core, Italy perhaps has the world’s best outside hitters right now.
We wonder how Picci feels about Carolina’s presence on the team. Just Kidding Picci!
Finally, Italy welcomes the return of Martina Guiggi and Francesca Ferretti. The former missed the 2010 season because of an injury while the latter had conflict with Coach Barbolini but it appears that the issue has been resolved.
That’s all for now…
