Since we started watching the Grand Prix Finals, we could already tell that the commentator doesn’t know that much about volleyball, ie the players competing at the tournament.

Just because they have the same last name “Glass”, it doesn’t mean that Kim Glass is the older sister and Alisha Glass is the younger sibling but the commentator believes they are.

LMAO!

On a serious note, one UK FAN could no longer take it and so he decided to email LAOLA TV regarding the performance of the Grand Prix commentator.

We got a copy of the email sent by “UK FAN’:

Thank you so much showing the live matches of the World Grand Prix on Laola to Uk viewers, albeit without the On Demand function. This is very much appreciated. I would however like to point out on behalf of the volleyball community at large, my disappointment at the quality (i.e lack of) of the commentating of the matches by the English commentators, which his really way below par and lacking in professionalism.

It is very clear that these commentators do little or no research before presenting matches, and so have no background information on the players, most of which could easily be accessed on any volleyball forum. Case in point, during the Italy V USA match, the commentator kept referring to Alisha Glass and Kimberley Glass as sisters! Anyone who knows about volleyball would have known this to be untrue. This is only one example of a myriad of faux pas from that one match!

Other inappropriate comments are for example, giving the wrong names to ball touches, and in a match involving China, almost the whole match the setter and middle player’s names were confused! These are very basic errors, simply solved by doing a bit of research before commentating. I am extremely disappointed moreso as I live in London, and am looking forward to the Olympics, and would be very ashamed if such a level of presenting were to be a feature of our hosting of volleyball. Suffice to say, this kind of commenting was also a feature of the London Olympics preparation volleyball event.

I hope this email finds its way to those concerned and quickly, lest we suffer more humiliation from the volleyball community! Lets keep the professionalism in our sport.

Very concerned,
UK FAN

All we can say is “No Guts No Glory!”

It’s a well written email plus it’s very direct. We don’t expect Laola to replace him but at least they’re aware of what he’s been doing & that we miss Paul Sunderland.

Even if the thinks Kim and Alisha are sisters, we still love him.

Thoughts?
