We feel so sorry for the women’s team.
4 core players are either INJURED or not physically fit to compete. They are veteran Jelena Nikolic, setter Ana Antonijevic, outside hitter Sanja Malagurski & the talented Brizitka Molnar.
The following 12 players will represent Serbia at the 2012 London Olympics:
Setters: Maja Ognjenovic, Bojana Zivkovic
Middle blockers: Natasa Krsmanovic, Milena Rasic, Stefana Veljkovic
Outside hitters: Jovana Vesovic, Brankica Mihajlovic, Ivana Djerisilo, Jelena Blagojevic
Opposite hitters: Jovana Brakocevic, Sanja Starovic
Libero: Suzana Cebic
We still have high hopes for this young Serbian squad led by star player Jovana Brakocevic, the great Maja Ognjenovic and one of the world’s best middle blockers Milena Rasic. Coach Terzic’s squad will play against Brazil, USA, Turkey, China and Korea during the Preliminary Round.
Jovana and her teammates need to play their best to survive and qualify for the next round.
Men’s Roster
Serbia played their best volleyball at the 2012 World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. Without star player Ivan Miljkovic, who has officially retired from the National Team, it’s kind of hard to predict how Kovacevic and Team will perform in London. On a positive note, this young Serbian team might not have a lot of Olympic experience BUT the players display great teamwork and chemistry. Their hitters are not the tallest yet technically gifted.
Coach Kolakovic still has an impressive squad but would they have what it takes to win against Brazil? USA? Germany? Russia? Tunisia? We just have to wait and see.
The following 12 players will represent Serbia at the 2012 London Olympics:
Outside Hitters: Bojan Janic, Nikola Kovacevic, Milos Nikic, Uros Kovacevic
Opposite Hitters: Sasa Starovic, Alexandar Atanasijevic
Middle Blockers: Dragan Stankovic, Marko Podrascanin, Milan Rasic
Setters: Vlado Petkovic, Mihajlo Mitic
Libero: Nicola Rosic
What Do You Think of Serbia’s Roster?
We have a feeling the young Alexandar Atanasijevic will shine in London just like what his predecessor Ivan Miljkovic did 12 years ago at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Remember this?
