We won’t believe until it becomes official.

According to sportal.bg, the Polish Federation will announce Coach Anastasi’s departure as the coach of the men’s national team. Officials have 3 candidates to take his spot: Two Bulgarian coaches Radostin Stoytchev, Plamen Konstantinov and Zoran Gajić, who led Yugoslavia to a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics.

Forner Bulgarian coach Radostin Stoytchev has also been offered the position.

With Poland hosting the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championship, we are not sure how a “new coach” will help the team prepare for the tournament.

This has been the trending topic since Poland’s disappointing performance at the 2013 European Champs.

After winning the bronze 2 years ago, Coach Anastasi’s squad ended the tourney in 9th place. The team’s worst Euro Volley performance since finishing 11th back in 2007. Knowing that Poland co-hosted the biennial tourney with Denmark, a lot of pressure were placed on the shoulders of each player and of course on the coaching staff.

After losing to Bulgaria in the Playoff Round, Coach Anastasi faced the media and we quote him:

“It was not an easy season for us, for me. I had to rebuild the team and make some difficult decisions. I take full responsibility for everything that happened.”

Rumor has it that Coach Andrea will meet with the Polish Federation today or this week to determine his future. They will be joined by one of the team’s major sponsors, Polsat, who has invested a lot of money knowing that Poland will host the 2014 World Championship.

Source says…

“There’s a lot of pressure from major sponsors to fire him but at the same time the Federation wants to hear Andrea’s side before making any decision. Knowing that Poland is hosting the World Champs, they really want to invest a lot of time evaluating Andrea’s future. Both sides are on the edge of taking a very big leap.”

The source also adds that Coach Anastasi is very well prepared to accept the decision of the Polish Federation.

“Andrea is one of the best coaches in the last decade. It won’t be hard for him to find another coaching position. If he leaves the team, a few good coaches are on the list such as Coach Hugh McCutcheon, former coach of Russia Vladimir Alekno and Resovia’s coach Andrzej Kowal.” adds the source.

With so much at stake, all we can say is that we hope both parties will make THE RIGHT decision.
