Forza Jenia!
Let’s start with the good news…
France advances to the next round of the FIVB Men’s World Championship as the #1 team from Pool D. Earvin, Kevin, Jenia and Team ended Round 1 with victories against USA (3-1), Iran (3-1), Puerto Rico (3-0) and Belgium (3-2). The only match they lost was against Italy (2-3).
Coach Tillie’s squad is in Pool E and will play against Poland, Argentina, Serbia and Australia in the Second Round which starts later this week.
Now, the BAD NEWS…
France’s star libero Jenia Grebennikov hurt his finger/hand earlier today in their match versus Belgium. The forgettable incident took place in the 5th after Jenia tried to defend a Belgian attack. Outside hitter Earvin Ngapeth took the libero spot til the end of the match.
According to Coach Tillie, his libero might have fractured something.
“Grebennikov will have X-ray, we are afraid he’s got a fracture. We keep our fingers crossed for no fractures, but if he won’t be able to play, we have our second libero with us.”
We really hope he’s ok and he gets to play in Round 2.
Jenia is the #1 digger of the tournament as of press time.
