Knowing that this is Sheilla’s 4th consecutive World Championship appearance, she BETTER win it!
Brazil’s star opposite Sheila is confident that her side can finally make their breakthrough at her fourth FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship and claim a first gold medal.
The best Brazil’s women have achieved are silver medals in 2010, 2006 and 1994, something of an anomaly considering their success in the Olympic Games, FIVB World Grand Prix and FIVB Grand Champions’ Cup over the past decade.
“I’m very happy to play my fourth World Championship,” she said. “Each World Championship has been a different experience and we are very united and focused on our group.
“We believe in our team, but this World Championship is the most difficult that we have participated in, with so many matches in a row over a short period of time.”
Sheila was part of the Brazil team that finished behind Russia in the past two World Championship finals, though she is a double Olympic champion and the Brazilian player with the most appearances at World Championships.
“We will take on teams that deserve to be in the World Championship and who will be well-prepared for it,” Sheila said. “Elias Jose Proenca, our fitness coach has really prepared us well in our pre-tournament training.
“We truly believe that the team is well prepared and has everything going for it to enjoy a good World Championship.”
