The Rio 2016 Organising Committee has released the daily competition schedule for the Olympic Games, with beach volleyball scheduled to take place at Copacabana Beach from August 6-18 and volleyball at the Maracanãzinho from August 6-21.
“We have produced a schedule that is well balanced and offers the public a wide variety of sports and medal events from the start to the finish of the Games,” said Agberto Guimarães, Rio 2016’s Executive Director of Sport.
The Games will officially begin on August 5, 2016, when the legendary Maracanã Stadium hosts the opening ceremony. The beach volleyball and volleyball competitions will begin on the following day.
The Maracanãzinho, which is one of Brazil’s traditional homes for volleyball, will also host the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1 Finals when they take place in Rio de Janeiro from July 14-19 later this year. Beach volleyball will take place at the world famous Copacabana Beach, which is set to provide another iconic venue for an Olympic beach volleyball tournament.
The full competition schedule, showing the specific session times, will be published on 31 March, when ticket sales start for Brazilian residents and the list of approved ticket resellers (ATRs) for overseas territories is released. Click here for the latest news on tickets.
